Dr. Mistry's research passion is to study the mechanisms by which context (policy, community, family) influences cancer risk behaviors, such as tobacco use, during critical developmental periods like adolescence.
His current research project will assess whether changes in community compliance with tobacco control policies are associated with adolescent tobacco use initiation in Mumbai and Kolkata, India. This proposal focuses on community-level implementation and impact of India's tobacco control policies that pertain to the WHO Framework Convention for Tobacco Control Articles 8, 13, and 16 about secondhand smoke exposure, tobacco access to minors, and tobacco promotion.
Being an immigrant, early on it seemed apparent to me that the country a person lives in and who they live with have profound impacts on their life. The mission of my career is to study how these contexts impact cancer risk behaviors.”
