Kate first came to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a Health Communications Intern in the Office of Science Planning and Assessment (OSPA). While there, she worked on the Bypass Budget, compiled Science Advances to report to Congress, and assisted with the re-design of the Office of Women's Health and OSPA's websites. Kate then transitioned to the Office of the Director (OD) in the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) as a Program Analyst. Some of her duties in this position included writing fact sheets, press releases, science advances, and website content, communicating grants policies, and developing a bibliography tool for science advances in DCCPS. After a two-year hiatus in which she worked on an international partnership with her church and an NGO in Haiti, as well doing leadership development with college students, Kate returned to DCCPS as a Public Health Advisor in the Behavioral Research Program (BRP).

In BRP, Kate does budget planning and tracking for each branch in BRP and the OAD. She develops and manages contracts within the program, as well as facilitating funding agreements with other NIH institutes and external federal agencies. In addition, Kate works on some communication efforts and grants administration.

Current and/or past BRP mentees include Tonza Webb and Kevin Jackson.
