Mark was a Cancer Prevention Fellow at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) from 2000-2004. He completed his Master of Public Health degree at Johns Hopkins University and then worked with the Tobacco Control Research Branch (TCRB) at NCI. As a fellow, Mark conducted an analysis of NCI research into "less hazardous cigarettes" over time, using archival records and tobacco industry documents. He also conducted two studies on causal inference and epidemiologic methods. Mark has continued his work in tobacco "harm reduction" and on epidemiologic methods. He joined the TCRB staff as an Epidemiologist and Program Director in 2004. Mark works with several Fellows and enjoys serving as a preceptor.
