Dr. Mandeep K. Virk-Baker is a Post-doctoral fellow in the Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program in the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS), Behavioral Research Program (BRP), Health Behaviors Research Branch (HBRB). She received her PhD in Nutritional Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in May 2012. At UAB, Dr. Virk-Baker's training included both basic lab and clinical research. Dr. Virk-Baker received the national Nell Mondy award for her dissertation research S-(-)Equol producing status and breast cancer risk, and the UAB Howered E. Sauberlich Endowed Award for Excellence in Nutrition Science Research. Along-side her metabolomics research at UAB, Dr. Virk-Baker received the International Life Sciences Institute North America (ILSI NA) Epidemiology Fellowship Award and the ILSI NA Technical Committee on Food and Chemical Safety Outstanding Work Award for her dietary carcinogen work.

Through the Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program, she received a Master of Public Health, and a graduate Certificate in Global Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2013. She also completed a Dietetic Internship program from Iowa State and received a Registered Dietitian certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration in 2014. Dr. Virk-Baker received the Outstanding Student of the Year awards from the Maryland Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics, and from the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.

Dr. Virk-Baker's research at NCI is focused in the areas of nutrition, tobacco, dietary carcinogens, and cancer prevention. Currently, she is evaluating the influence of tobacco use on dietary intakes and nutrition in both US and international settings. Recently, Dr. Virk-Baker received the NCI Sallie Rosen Kaplan Postdoctoral Fellowship award.
