Staff: Joan A. Harris
Joan Adel Harris joined the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in 2006 after spending more than 30 years in direct patient care and office administration. As an Extramural Support Assistant she has worked for several Branches within the Behavioral Research Program (BRP) in the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS). Joan currently works for the Science of Research and Technology Branch (SRTB). Her primary responsibilities are to prepare domestic and foreign travel authorization for internal and external travelers. She also assists the Acting Branch Chief and other staff members with conference call set-up, calendar maintenance, material distrobution, and other administrative duties.
Joan is a proud native of Jamaica. Upon her arrival to the United States, she attended Montgomery College where she pursued her degree in Mental Health Counseling. She has numerous certifications in the health field and worked in the Washington Metropolitan area as an administrative assistant, medical assistant, nurse assistant, and mental health counselor. Joan plans to continue her education in the Mental Health field. Her passion is in women's health and empowerment.
