Laura Dwyer, Ph.D., was a Cancer Research Training Award Fellow in the Health Behaviors Research Branch (HBRB) of the Behavioral Research Program (BRP). She earned a doctorate in applied social psychology from the George Washington University and holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from the College of the Holy Cross.

Dr. Dwyer's research interests focus on psychosocial and environmental correlates of health behaviors, and she is particularly interested in the interplay of multiple behavioral correlates in promoting health. As a doctoral student, she focused on experimental and survey research to examine: theory-based constructs related to health and health risk-taking behaviors, moderators of UV photography messaging on sun safety cognitions, and factors that contribute to racial and ethnic disparities in health. During her fellowship, Dr. Dwyer examined both psychosocial and environmental correlates of several health behaviors (including diet, physical activity, and sun safety behaviors) by conducting quantitative analyses and reviewing existing research. She also provides support to the Family Life, Activity, Sun, Health, and Eating (FLASHE) Study.

Current and/or past BRP mentors include Linda Nebeling.
