Annice Kim, Ph.D., examines the use of digital communication and technology to advance our understanding of public health issues and consumer behavior in the digital age. She is the principal investigator (PI) on a National Cancer Institute (NCI) grant that uses Twitter and survey data to monitor emerging issues related to e-cigarettes. She gathers these data in order to inform her surveillance and behavior research. She is also a co-investigator on a Tobacco Centers for Regulatory Science (TCORS) grant that uses gaming technology to develop virtual store environments to experimentally test the impact of tobacco regulatory policies at the point-of-sale. At RTI International, she evaluates digital and social media public health campaigns for federal and state health agencies, and she monitors tobacco and e-cigarette marketing practices and their influence on consumers.

Dr. Kim is passionate about developing new and rigorous approaches that use big data and technological innovations to inform public health research and practice. She believes in tackling these challenges with a diverse interdisciplinary team of people from various academic, government, and commercial sectors. She's also interested in using new developments in computer science, data science, marketing, and survey research in order to address emerging health issues and to find creative solutions to public health problems.
