How has your BRP fellowship influenced your career?
My time as a CRTA fellow in BRP affirmed my passion for tobacco control research and helped me learn more about new career paths that I didn't know existed. Before my fellowship at NCI I had no idea what contracting involved. But after great experiences working with other fellows, contractors, and federal employees at NCI, I decided to start my career as a government contractor. After a year of working in government contracting, I took a position with the CDC Foundation to manage their project, Monitoring E-Cigarette Use Among Youth in Select U.S. Cities and States.

Describe a favorite memory or two from your fellowship experience.
Everyone I met and got to work with at NCI was incredibly knowledgeable and invested in fellows and their training. I cannot understate how much I learned and was able to do during my time as a fellow. One of my favorite memories from my time at NCI was being involved with the Smoking Cessation at Lung Examination (SCALE) Collaboration with my mentor, Dr. Stephanie Land, and getting to facilitate collaboration among grantees and researchers. I also enjoyed retreats and getting to interact with people outside of the office!

Describe your current position, your current organization, and what you do.
Currently, I am a CDC Foundation field employee serving as a project manager for their Monitoring E-Cigarette Use Among Youth in Select U.S. Cities and States initiative. I am enjoying getting to work in the non-profit setting and to help manage initiatives to improve surveillance of youth ENDS behavior. I have really enjoyed getting to collaborate with individuals at the CDC and CDC Foundation, including former TCRB fellow Jamie Cordova, who is a Data Analyst on the Monitoring E-Cigarette Use Among Youth in Select U.S. Cities and States project!
