As a biostatistician, I was fascinated by the opportunity to collaborate with researchers with diverse backgrounds, ranging from pure statisticians to epidemiologists to clinicians. Motivated by the challenging problems imposed by complex genetic and genomics datasets, my research aims to develop novel statistical methods and software that can help us better understand the etiology and improve risk stratification for cancer.

Dr. Chong Wu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research focuses on developing a new generation of data-driven methods and software to address challenges imposed by complex genomics data. Briefly, his research aims to 1) identify putative causal biomarkers to gain insights into the genetic basis of complex diseases, particularly prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, and Alzheimer's, and 2) enhance risk predictions to advance precision medicine. His current project (co-led with Dr. Lang Wu) will develop novel methods and apply them to identify causally related proteins and deliver improved prostate cancer prediction models across Africans and Europeans . The identified protein biomarkers will be further validated using functional experiments.

Dr. Wu's interest in this field of research first began when he joined Florida State University. He learned causal inference from his collaborators and became excited to deal with unique challenges imposed by genomic data. He was also amazed by the idea of risk prediction using genetic information and was dedicated to developing new methods to further improve risk prediction performance.
