I am a Social and Behavioral Scientist.

Lila J. Finney Rutten, Ph.D., M.P.H.

Mayo Clinic

In building a program of research in population health science in a clinical setting, I realized that the true value of my expertise and experience in behavioral science could be leveraged in the clinical setting through implementation science efforts aimed at improving adoption of evidence-based cancer prevention and control strategies.

Dr. Rutten's program of research is focused on implementation and evaluation of evidenced-based cancer prevention and control strategies in primary care to improve population health.

Dr. Rutten's current research effort is an embedded pragmatic trial to evaluate the effectiveness of evidence-based implementation strategies on HPV vaccination rates in primary care practices. This research offers a model for improving adoption of proven cancer prevention strategies in clinical practice.

Dr. Rutten's interest in cancer prevention and control research emerged during graduate school wherein she recognized the significant contributions that behavioral science could make in improving health behavior. She was particularly interested in cancer prevention and screening, given a very strong history of cancer in her family.
